Art of Sail

Starboard side of the 2-sided Art-Of-Sail work by Magda Love

Rise Up Gallery has chosen Magda Love as this year’s resident artist. Her work, a double-sided painting created on re-purposed sailcloth from the old staysail of Impossible Dream, will be used as the actual sail for excursions in major ports between Miami and Quebec City. The Impossible Dream crew of mixed ability sailors will navigate over 6,000 miles along the eastern seaboard and will join Tall Ships of America and Sail Training International for the Rendez-Vous journey to Canada. Impossible Dream will be the most accessible boat amongst the most historic sailing vessels in the world. They expect to sail with over 500 people who are currently undergoing physical rehabilitation at the facilities of our partner organizations.

The use of an art piece as the actual sail to propel the boat through its journey is a testament to the power of nature, art, and joining communities under one singular, recognizable initiative; to use art and design as a catalyst for ocean conservation awareness while sailing and pursuing a better quality of life for people with disabilities and their families.

The work is available for purchase through live auction throughout the tour, which concludes in November, when the boat returns to its home-port at Shake-A-Leg Miami for a grand celebration.
